There are literally thousands of churches that claim to be followers of Jesus Christ and none of them agrees with the other. Every one of those churches has its own nuance that makes it unique from all the other churches, or else they would be the same church and thus would have the same name. If one church does not agree with the other, can they both be the church Jesus built on the Rock? Must one of the churches be a counterfeit? Dr. Thiel again relies on the Bible for the answer by quoting Matt 24:5 For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. The word of God reveals that many will come in the name of Jesus, proclaiming Him to be the Messiah, and yet will deceive many. This deception will come from the false church. How can you tell the true church from the deceived, false church? Dr. Thiel starts from the beginning to find out - with Pentecost. Here is a quote from the book: "The Christian church began on the Day of Pentecost c. 31 A.D., which is when the Holy Spirit was sent. Notice the following from the second chapter of the Book of Acts about how the Church of God started: 1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place... 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1,4)" As of this review it was approximately one thousand nine hundred and ninety years ago, on the day of Pentecost, that Jesus Christ laid the foundation for His church with Himself as the chief cornerstone. From that time on His church would never fail. It would never be defeated, even for a little while. Nothing, not even the gates of hell (the grave) would prevail against His church. From that Pentecost forward, Dr. Thiel proves, from a Biblical perspective, that Christ's true church would have the same practices, beliefs, and teachings as that church founded in c. 31 A.D. By following that church forward it is easy for all to see that the true church continued right through the death of the apostle John, who wrote the book of Revelation, in the mid 90's A.D. From the death of John forward, the issue of continuing to locate the true church became a matter of not only who followed the original teachings of the church established on Pentecost, but what group had the original books of both the Old and New Testaments? With nothing added or taken away. This is where Dr. Thiel's extensive, documented research provides a clear path to the identity and location of the true church. The apostle John was the last apostle to die. When he died the leadership, along with the canon of the Bible, was passed on to his disciple, Polycarp of Smyrna, whose remaining writings prove he observed all that Jesus commanded the original 12 apostles obey and observe prior to Pentecost c. 31 A.D. From Polycarp the trail of the 7 eras of the true church as mentioned in the book of Revelation can be found throughout history by the writings of both secular historians as well as spiritual leaders. These writings identify the trail of the church that was built on the Rock that the gates of hell would not prevail against, by their beliefs and practices. Prior to listing all the references as proofs for his book, references that would allow an individual to seek and find the true church, Dr. Thiel leaves us with this question: If you were to actually identify and locate the one and only true Church of God founded almost two thousand years ago would you consider it a "Pearl of Great Price"... or not? Seek, and you will find.
