In the author's nearly 50 years of relevant study and practice, he has taught various forms of meditation, but for the past 10 years, has chosen to almost exclusively guide Yoga Nidra meditation. The author's considerable experience in this role has taught him the general population is largely unaware of the guided meditation process of Yoga Nidra and misunderstands the nature, process and intended benefits of those forms of meditation with which they are vaguely familiar. When unrealistic expectations of traditional, un-guided meditation are not met, inflict pain, are inefficient and ineffective in relaxing, let alone achieving a meditative state, the would-be meditator almost invariably concludes they have failed, are unable to "stop their busy mind", are a loser, and miles away from their expected state of prolonged bliss.
Yet what persists is a strong desire for relief from the ravages of chronic stress. Many return to, or grasp at even superficial tastes of momentary contentment while continuing to deeply yearn for relief of a deeper, more prolonged and sustainable nature. Millions of people crave an inexpensive, efficient, effective, no-experience-required, no-side effect, non-stigmatizing, accessible method to de-stress, a method for re-taking the direction of one's life, the experience of restoration, prolonged bliss and psycho-spiritual enlightenment. Yoga Nidra guided meditation, well-crafted and performed consistent with this book, provides all of this.
