Produktbeschreibung
Jurji Zaydan had a broad knowledge of the linguistic field, both theoretically and practically. From a theoretical perspective, Zaydan was interested in studies related to the philosophy of language and its history, in addition to his study of comparative philology. He was also familiar with modern linguistic theories of his time. From a practical perspective, he mastered Arabic, Hebrew, Syriac, Latin, English, French, and German. He was also familiar with Italian and Spanish, enabling him to understand what he read. This great knowledge of the linguistic field prompted him to present this book, in which he discusses the history of the Arabic language and the changes that have occurred to it through renewal or extinction. He showed us how words and structures disappear and others are born, and how circumstances dictate this new birth and that old extinction. He divides the historical study of the Arabic language in this book into several points: the pre-Islamic era, the Islamic era, administrative terms in the Arab state, scientific terms in the Arab state, general terms in the Arab state, Christian and Jewish terms, foreign terms from foreign languages such as Turkish and Kurdish, and the modern renaissance in which Arabic borrowed from the Frankish languages.
