Arthur Golden, geboren 1957 in Tennessee, studierte in Harvard Kunstgeschichte mit Schwerpunkt japanischer Kultur und an der Columbia University japanische Geschichte. Danach verbrachte er mehrere Jahre in Japan. Der Roman "Die Geisha" ist sein erstes Buch, zu dem ihn eine alte Geisha inspirierte, eine gute Freundin seiner Großmutter. Über zehn Jahre hat er daran gearbeitet. Der Autor lebt heute mit seiner Frau und zwei Kindern in Brookline, Massachussetts.
